How this is calculated

Formula: FV = P × [((1 + i)n − 1) / i] × (1 + i), where P is the monthly investment, i is the monthly rate (annual ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of months.

Returns shown are indicative — actual mutual-fund returns vary by scheme, category and market cycle. Equity funds in India have historically delivered 10–14% annualised over long periods. Use 8–9% for hybrid/conservative funds and 6–7% for debt.

Past performance is not indicative of future returns. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks.

Frequently asked questions

How is SIP maturity calculated?

A SIP is a series of monthly investments, each compounding until maturity. We use the future-value-of-annuity formula FV = P × [((1+i)^n − 1) / i] × (1+i), where P is the monthly amount, i the monthly rate (annual ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n the number of months.

What return should I assume for a SIP?

It depends on the fund category. Diversified equity funds in India have historically delivered ~10–14% annualised over long periods, hybrid funds ~8–10%, and debt funds ~6–7%. Returns are not guaranteed and vary with market cycles.

Is a SIP better than a lumpsum?

A SIP averages your purchase price across market levels (rupee-cost averaging) and removes the need to time the market, which suits salaried investors. A lumpsum can do better in a steadily rising market. Use our Lumpsum vs SIP calculator to compare.

Can I increase my SIP every year?

Yes — a step-up (top-up) SIP raises your monthly amount by a fixed percentage each year, which dramatically increases the final corpus. Try the Step-up SIP calculator.
